seasons greetings friends,
DAO Talk studios’ collective IQ was raised tremendously this week w/ the addition of special co-host Kyler from the DAO Research collective. the bois went deep on the legal, social, and semantic implications of the current DAO zeitgeist.
let’s get into it ⬇️
discussed on the pod 🎙
🎓DAOs are in their teenager moment
MCON wrapped up 10 days ago and this is the best thread that covers key points from the conference and gives an update on where DAOs are in the big picture.
tl;dr DAOs are having a ton of growing pains. no one REALLY knows what is going to work longterm, web3 is a different game w/ different rules — the industry is relatively nascent, keeping this perspective will guide better decisionmaking.
🎓DAO success starts from day 1
Frisson went viral on twitter w/ his take on starting as a DAO vs. progressively decentralizing.
tl;dr starting as a DAO is not ALWAYS the best organizational decision. operators need to be aware of the pros and cons of starting as a DAO or a more traditional route and make decisions accordingly. it’s nuanced, baby!
How do you make those nuanced decisions? read great legal resources from the team at kaliDAO, a DAO incubated by lexDAO (a collection of web3 lawyers)
🤔 do we need more naming conventions for DAOs?
Tommy thinks yes, Kyler thinks no. Listen to the pod to hear the full discussion or jump into the replies on the tweet above ⬆️
🔍nounsDAO gets fractional w/ nounlets
New primitive for creating sub-DAOs of individual Nouns. Each Nounlet NFT represents 1% of a vaulted Noun and has a vote in delegating the Noun’s governance rights.
the vaulted “base” noun is divided into 100 indivdual Nounlets that keep the original noun artwork but add individual flares to differentiate
unlocks a massive group of participants that were previously priced out of nounsDAO (last noun sold for ~$100,000)
